Capello Out

Seriously. If he thinks that Stuart Downing, David Beckham, Theo Walcott and Emile Heskey deserve to be current England players, and that Ashley Young doesn’t, he’s in the wrong job.
Match reaction to come tomorrow, when I’ve recovered from a particularly shitty train journey back to London.

Yeah I totally agree.. emile Heskey?!?! Over Michael Owen and Peter Crouch. Who aren’t the best but at least Crouch and Defoe are training with each other everyday! Can’t believe Ashley Young isn’t in there and I would have Wright Phillips in. The match didn’t sound great Ian, I listened to it on the radio, good result for the Boro though, and Newcastle and Sunderland lost! Champions League, here we come!
Erm we weren’t THAT bad. Probably better overall than when McLaren was in charge. I’m not particularly happy with Capello in charge full-stop. Nothing against him, but watching Harry Redknapp managing and England side in the build up to Soccer Aid actually got my national pride going more than the likes of Capello, Rio and Rooney have recently.
Ultimately though, we won. That’s all we had to do. Also seeing Capello give a bollocking to Cole and Rooney in the 2nd half actually gave me a bit of optimism that he’s quite capable of rattling a few egos.
As for Heskey, well as a Liverpool fan I’m very aware of his faults. One thing that I will say for him is that he tends to bring out the best in those who partner him, and that seemed to pay-off again.
I don’t doubt that Gabby and Young deserve to be in the squad, if not the starting XI. Yet look at it this way, if we lose against Croatia the whole side will again be torn to shreds by the public and press. Players like Rooney and Lampard seem to be teflon internationals, nothing sticks no matter how shit they play. The players that get singled out are those without Champions League resumes to fall back on… look how there were calls for Ashton to never play for England again after one bad performance. So it might work out better if the Young Lions keep to winning ways in the under 21s and then come in a couple of months down the line. By then it’ll be do or die pride n’ glory stuff or a re-juvinated England gearing up for the next World Cup, either should hopefully be a better atmosphere for them to step into.
Bear in mind that this post was written when the squad was announced - not post-match. Yes, I’ve been that shit at updating.
Erm, I take it back about Walcott.
Doesn’t change the fact that you’re an idiot.
