And he’ll never work for them!

HE’LL NEEEEEEVER WORK FOR THEM!
While the statement as it stands at the moment sounds a bit clinical and technical, this is absolutely fantastic, incredible, wonderful BRILLIANT news. Villa obviously wouldn’t put a statement like that out if Barry wasn’t happy to stay, for now at least. And we know we can trust him to give it a hundred per cent and play like a professional in the coming season, both as a player and as our captain. And after being resigned to losing him for so long, it feels like we’ve signed a new player. With Barry back in contention, I am now supremely confident about next season. Fuck it, I’m gonna say it - with Barry in the team, he won’t need to move in order to play Champions League football.
This is just so perfect. The only thing that’s made this sweeter, is the fact that the statement was made just a few hours after this Daily Mail report. The Daily Mail wrong and full of lies? Who’d have thought it?
EDIT: Unsurprisingly, that Daily Mail link has since been changed. Historical revisionism from a right-wing, Nazi-sympathising publication? Who’d have thought it? Good job someone took a screen grab, then.

*cough*

I’m not actually taking any delight in this, other than we still might be signing a very, very good player.
I really cannot get my head-around why Villa went so public, when it appears Barry has never changed his stance. It seems bloody cruel to get yourselves and other Villa fans so passionately worked up that he is staying when all that actually happened was a deadline that had no actual merit passed.
